Through Professional Learning Communities our teachers are working to help all students gain the skills and knowledge they need to meet and exceed educational standards and to achieve their full potential. In PLCs across grade levels and content areas, our teachers and administrators are engaging in a carefully designed culture of collaborative problem solving and instructional planning about what is working with students and what is not. We ask our teachers to share student performance data so they can transform information gained into knowledge; knowledge about how to better design instructional strategies. PLC time allows time for staff to get together to discuss, "What do students know? What do students not know? and What are we going to do about it?" These questions become focus for how to improve. If BBHCSD teachers are going to achieve increased long-term impact on student performance and achievement, they must be given opportunity to change the way they work. We are working to build the capacity of teacher teams by providing dedicated time for them to reflect on their work and to make ongoing instructional adjustments based on their analysis of student performance. PLCs are helping our teachers and administrators utilize data to gain knowledge necessary to inspire every student to fullfill their academic, ethical and civic potential.
